About the ArtisansLa Familia Cun
Small decorative baskets are a specialty of San Jose Poaquil, Chimaltenango, Guatemala where the Cun family live. Kay has known the family for many years and when she needed baskets to use as nests for the bird earrings Mission: Guatemala sells, she thought of them. They make the baskets and other small items from straw. They find this a way to supplement the small income they receive from the crops they are able to grow. Nohelia, the oldest daughter, is studying with Kateri Education Fund scholarship. They too value education and are struggling to keep their children in school.
